ADAGIO - The Second Timepiece Under The Christophe Claret Brand

The timepiece maker Christophe Claret has released its second watch collection, christened Adagio. Its official presentation will take place at Baselworld 2011.

Performed with utmost respect for the greatest watchmaking traditions, the new Christophe Claret watch successfully brings together the following useful features: large date, GMT and minute repeater.

The last-mentioned complication pays tribute to the brand’s first calibre, developed over 20 years ago. A genuine technical feat, this mechanism strikes hours, quarters and minutes on demand. The cathedral gongs of the striking mechanism are equipped with a patented device. It prevents the gongs from knocking against each other when vibrating under the hammer blows.

Taking care of hours and minutes are eye-catching central hands. Small seconds, meanwhile, are indicated in a counter at 9 o’clock. It is supported by a large date, which appears in a double aperture at 6 o’clock. The second time-zone display, fitted with a day/night indication, is arranged at 2 o’clock.

The functions, provided by the new Christophe Claret Adagio watch, are immediate and clear on an eye-pleasing dial, available in three executions. The first version proudly demonstrates an ancestral art of guilloche-work or engine-turning on white gold. It marries marvelously with the blued hour, minutes and seconds hands as well as those of the dual time-zone.

The second interpretation boasts incredible jewels, such as black onyx, ruby, jade, opal or lapis lazuli. The third variation offers a rhodiumed anthracite gold base, punctuated by stamped sub-dials. The latter produce a three-dimensional effect.

The dial is housed in a 44 mm case, rendered in platinum, rose or white gold. At 3 o’clock, it sports a winding crown, equipped with a security system. When the mainspring is fully wound, the mechanism disconnects the winding stem. It allows avoiding any damage that can be caused due to excessive tension.

The crown is joined by two pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock, which serve to adjust the large date and dual time-zone displays. The case is also fitted with a slide-piece, which governs the striking mechanism at 9 o’clock. The water-resistance of the watch is assured down to 30 meters.

The timepiece relies on the in-house manufactured calibre SLB88 movement. It measures 34 mm in diameter and comprises 455 individual parts. The mechanism incorporates finely decorated bridges and supplies a 48-hour power reserve.

The exclusive character of the new Christophe Claret watch is further accentuated by an elegant dark-toned leather strap. The issue of the model is strictly limited to just 8 pieces.
